Unhappy Guild Wars 2: Keep the Campaigns

I was absolutely flabergasted to read that they might/would be dropping the campaign format in Guild Wars 2. It definitly makes the game alot funner and more interesting, especially since you can do the missions over and over again whether it be for fun or helping people.

The odd thing though is that at the same time they are saying they're not going to do an epic campaign (Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall) that:

"but rather than telling one big monolithic story our goal is to pursue story arcs and story bubbles - that players can choose to take their characters into a story arc and maybe there a several missions and persistent areas that'll tie that together. And there's going to be numerous of these story arcs throughout the world. What we want to do is adopt more of a sandbox mentality, that players can direct their own play and pace to a much greater degree than they could in Guild Wars 1."

So it sounds like instead, of having one campaign in GW2 they might have more than one. But if they ARE getting rid of the campaigns or epic villians (Shiro, etc), then in my opinion, then its pretty disappointing because the campaigns were one of the main things that separated them from other MMORPGs.

IMO it just means more epicness per game.

Campaigns have made pvp very difficult: In order to PvP you need all campaigns there are. With each expantion the total number of campaigns rises, but the total number of people who have all campaigns declines. Therefore, the PvP community gets smaller with each campaign.
It also means that in order to start up in PvP at this point in time, you need to make a starting investment of $150 ($50 per campaign), as opposed to the average $50 in other online games. In a system with free updates and monthly fees, this problem is non-existant.

yeah I like having a main story to complete, It gives me a sense that I am doing more than just wasting time. The lack of any type of central story line (along with monthly fees) was what turned me away from WoW.
I hope with GW2 they maintain some semblance of a main story line.

I wouldn't mind a campaign, I just dont want multiple campaigns. For one, it made the other campaigns less fun by way of discontinuity. (for example, My factions character Kills the undead rurik, and then has a dramatic chat with "his prince" even though hes never freaking met the guy before he was a sword swinging zombie slave).

It's also annoying to have to start over campaigns and, especially with nightfall, it makes it less desireable to want to start new characters. I've been considering starting a dervish for months, but havent, mostly because of heroes. I don't want to have to level up and equip a whole new batch, which I would since they are required for quests.

Although at first I didn't even like the campaign style, after having played guild wars, I do enjoy it, although I would like it if it weren't required to move forward, because after repeat plays, it gets tedious. My vote would be for something like morrowind or oblivion, with a main campaign thats optional and can be ignored or put on hold, and expansions that continue (like GW:EN) rather than start over.

I think there will still be a storyline. What it means be "abadoning the campagin idea" is they won't flood the game with multiple chapters (and thus have to constantly rebalance and reinvent the game).
